The Florida
Alliance for Assistive Service and Technology (FAAST) will
provide a hands-on
demonstration
room of
accommodations
that allow
persons with disabilities to be successful employees.
JAN staff and other experts will
navigate with you to answer questions
such as . . .
- How does an employer recruit, hire,
retain, promote, and accommodate employees with disabilities?
- What strategies have employers implemented to facilitate successful
and cost-effective accommodation?
- What do laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
say about employing individuals
with disabilities?
A
unique learning experience . . .
For over 20 years, Job Accommodation Network (JAN) consultants have
provided focused, trusted, and informed answers to these and other
questions. JAN's annual symposium offers a unique opportunity
for human resource managers, supervisors, and other management professionals
to attend workshops presented by JAN consultants, share information
with your peers, and gain valuable guidance and resources
that can be shared with others in your company or organization. JAN
has also invited featured speakers who have expertise
in employment law, innovative employment practices, and disability
issues. Check this Web site regularly as these invited guests are
announced!

Set your course to meet your needs . . .
This year, the JAN Symposium will offer three concurrent training
tracks addressing accommodation issues, innovative employment practices,
and ADA/legal issues.
- The Accommodation Track will address techniques
for hiring, retaining, accommodating, and promoting people with
disabilities. The sessions will provide
solutions to tough accommodation situations and address motor, sensory,
and cognitive/psychiatric impairments.
- The Innovative Employment Practices Track will
offer effective techniques for managing employees with disabilities,
responding
to accommodation requests,
working through the accommodation process, and implementing accommodations
in business cultures. Sessions will provide tools for training
new supervisors, managing personality differences, implementing
accountability, and addressing recent disability management trends.
- The ADA/Legal Track will offer sessions that
concentrate on current and pending ADA and Rehabilitation Act issues.
Each session
is designed for participants who wish to learn more about the obligation
to provide reasonable accommodation and resources available
to assist them. Trainers will also discuss the interaction of the
ADA with other disability legislation such as the Family and Medical
Leave Act.
Sessions will be highly interactive and include question
and answer segments. In addition, JAN consultants will be available
throughout
the symposium to address your specific questions. Check the agenda for additional information.
The symposium will be held at the Orlando
World Gate Resort in Orlando, FL. All conference facilities are
accessible.
